Group Chat Wrapped is a free Mac app that analyzes your iMessage group chats and generates fun, visual stats. It shows message rankings, tapback breakdowns (loves, likes, laughs, and more), perfect scores, and individual participant profiles. Think Spotify Wrapped, but for your group chats.

A perfect score is a message that received a tapback (reaction) from everyone, or nearly everyone, in the group chat. The app tracks how many perfect scores each person has and shows you the messages that earned them.

The app breaks down all six tapback types: loved, liked, disliked, laughed, emphasized, and questioned. You'll see who gets the most of each reaction, tapbacks sent vs. received, and average tapbacks per message for every participant.

Yes. Group Chat Wrapped reads your local iMessage database and processes everything on-device. No message content or personal data is sent to any server. The app collects anonymous usage analytics (like which features are used) through PostHog, but never your chat data.

Your iMessage database is stored in a protected location on macOS. Full Disk Access lets the app read (never write to) your chat database. Without it, macOS blocks access to the file entirely. The app walks you through granting this permission on first launch.

Group Chat Wrapped requires macOS 13 (Ventura) or later. It runs on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

The app shows your iMessage group chats. Individual (one-on-one) conversations are not included. It's designed specifically for group chats.

Group Chat Wrapped can only read the local iMessage database on your Mac, not everything stored in iCloud. So you're only seeing statistics for the period of time that messages have been on this specific device.
